![]() AED Program PicturesIn 2005, Hamilton County Ambulance was awarded $30,000 in grant funds to distribute AED’s (Automated External Defibrillators) and train people throughout Hamilton County. This $30,000 grant has enabled Hamilton County Ambulance to form a partnership with businesses, schools, and fire departments throughout the county to fight sudden cardiac arrest. With such a wide area to cover the AED’s were strategically placed throughout the county to try and meet the 3-5 minute, cardiac arrest to defibrillation window that the American Heart Association recommends. Every fire department and school in the county will now have an AED, and there will be several public access sites throughout the county that anyone who is trained can grab and use if needed.
Hamilton County Ambulance utilized a portion of the grant funds to train people within Hamilton County on how to use the AED’s. The goal was to get as many people CPR trained as possible. CPR buys time until the AED can be used, and without proper CPR it may be of no use. To date over 100 people have been trained. One new public access AED added in 2009. St. John's Lutheran Church in Kronberg purchased an AED for use in their facility. Hamilton County Ambulance would like to talk to any civic groups out there about the need for AED’s and what the group can do to help. We have a short presentation put together to educate the public on what an AED is and when it needs to be used. If you would like us to come speak at your function please contact us by calling 402-694-5155 or email: hcems.bdethlefs@hamilton.net. |
